Public Weekly Tours:

Tours of the Marshall family home and the Marshall Steam Museum are available to the general public Thursdays and Fridays. Tours of the Marshall Mansion (operated by Auburn Valley State Park) start at 1:00 & 3:00 pm, promptly from the Mansion porch, and last approximately 1 hour. The Marshall Steam Museum is open between 1:00 and 4:00 pm, for either a guided tour experience or personal exploration. It is common for visitors to tour the Mansion first at 1:00 pm and then enjoy the Marshall Steam Museum afterwards.

Admission is $8/person ($4/child) for either the Mansion or Museum — or tour both for the discounted price of $14/person (a savings of $2/person). Advance purchasing of tickets is not needed. 

 

Private Reserved Group Tours
For Groups of 8 or More

Private tours of the Marshall family home and the Marshall Steam Museum are available for groups of eight or more Monday through Friday, 9 am – 5 pm. Please note that no rides are offered for reserved group tours.

  • Auburn Heights Mansion Tour
    Explore the main two floors of the antiques-furnished Victorian mansion, home to three generations of the Marshall family and now managed by Delaware State Parks. Tour lasts approximately one hour.
  • Marshall Steam Museum Tour
    Discover the world’s largest collection of operating steam-powered automobiles! Other vehicles on display include a 1914 Model T, 1916 electric car and a 1932 Packard. In addition to these amazing vehicles, the museum features scale-size steam locomotives, standard-gauge Lionel electric trains from the 1930s, and more.
  • Touch Tour Offered by advance reservation
    Experience the Marshall Steam Museum through your fingertips! Designed for guests who are blind or partially sighted and their sighted companions, this hour-and-a-half tour includes sensory experiences throughout the museum space as we take down the barriers. Guests can enjoy listening to early 20th-century music machines, discover early transportation by touching select antique cars from our collection, trying hands-on learning through touchable items (both reproduction and original!) and other fun surprises along the way. Our staff member is trained in audio description. Our tour capacity is 6 participants and cost is $6/person and free for sighted companions. We are also part of Art-Reach’s ACCESS program: with your card and photo ID, you can receive admission for up to four people at $2 each. If you need help with transportation costs we may be able to assist!
